A new survey discovered that nearly 50% of Gen Z secured a job or an internship using TikTok. Additionally, Gen Z is far more likely to use Instagram and TikTok for their job search than traditional platforms like LinkedIn.
This survey comes at a time when TikTok’s future in the United States remains uncertain. While its deadline was pushed back by 45 days, it’s unclear what will actually happen to the app.
“Younger job seekers are sticking with what they know,” said Sheldon Arora, CEO at StaffDNA®, which regularly uses Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, along with its own app, to advertise open healthcare jobs.
“That means companies need to be on as many social media platforms as possible. While they should still post job openings on traditional channels like job boards, social media is crucial for broadening their reach,” Arora said in an email. On TikTok, Gen Z sees the job search as “easy, accessible and fun,” he added.
“Also, the sense of community TikTok has generated among younger users makes them feel that they are not in the job-hunting process alone,” Arora said. “This is an unprecedented time in the job market, and any avenue for landing a job is fair game.”
A 2024 study by TikTok done in collaboration with Oxford Economics found TikTok drove about $14.7 billion in revenue across seven million businesses active on the platform. Most notably, small businesses and restaurants. For restaurants, TikTok is not just a marketing tool – it’s how they connect to customers and potential employees.
